University students prepare for upcoming demonstrations after the Chilean government fails to meet their demands for education reform.
Giorgio Jackson, a student leader and member of the Chilean Students Confederation, joined The Stream to discuss the ongoing protests.
As student demonstrations continue to grow in Chile, President Sebastián Piñera addressed the demands of protesters by issuing a $4 billion education fund.
The fund would provide for more scholarships, cheaper loans, and extra support for low-income families. But students say the government’s fund does not sufficiently meet their needs. They are calling for a complete overhaul of Chile’s highly privatised education system.
